“If you want to build a ship, don't start by distributing tasks and getting people to gather the wood and cut the planks, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea.”

A Letter to parents from our founder, Dr Katherine Wiles
Academic excellence is the cornerstone of Wentworth Tutors. We operate under a simple objective: that we find the right tutors to teach our students to an exceptional standard. We pride ourselves in helping our students improve their academic results.
I first started teaching in 2005 as a volunteer teaching underprivileged students to play wind instruments in Trenton, NJ. For the last decade I have taught privately and through nonprofit organisations. What has impressed me the most is that, with the right support, every student has the enthusiasm and interest to reach his or her potential. In today’s world, a rigorous education is an essential resource for any young mind. Fostering a love of learning and an appetite for further study is invaluable. Wentworth Tutors is committed to developing the intellectual and critical curiosity that sustains a lifetime of learning in the pursuit of academic excellence.
Tutoring is a partnership between student, tutor, parent, and agency. With Wentworth Tutors, I wanted to create a business that I as a tutor would want to work for. True excellence in a tutor is a rare combination of intelligence, communication skills, empathy, and creativity. Wentworth Tutors is committed to supporting these select tutors work their magic. We have tutors who are passionate about teaching and together can teach just about anything you can think of. Our tutors will support your child's intellectual development inspiring confidence, communication skills, and curiosity.

Sophia Ohler – Head Tutor & Head of US Syllabus
Sophia is an American recently moved to England, living and working in London. She graduated with a BA in English, with Honors, from Harvard University in 2015. In Harvard, she worked for the Bureau of Study Council helping fellow undergraduates learn English, Spanish, French and the sciences. She also worked in the Mission Hill Program for the Philips Brooks House helping local middle and high school students with homework and exam preparation, as well as doing private college and admissions essay counseling back in her hometown of Bedford, New York.
Sophia is a genuine all-rounder, she is just as at home tutoring in the US sylabus as the UK or IB sylabii. She is well versed in and has extensively tutored all of the UK exams (11+, 13+, Common Entrance, GCSE, A Levels, UCAS, etc.). However, she grew up in the American system, she took all of the US standardized tests (ISEE, SSAT, ERB, SAT, ACT) as a child and went through the gruelling college application process. She read English at university, but the majority of her tutoring and experience is in maths and the sciences. Please contact Sophia if you have any questions or would like to discuss your particular tutoring or college counselling needs.
While at Harvard, she spent a significant time working in the Admissions Office as an Admissions Representative. There, her job was to greet and show prospective students the campus, as well as to answer any and all questions about the Harvard application process, and general applications to other universities. She is well versed in the various US entrance exams – the SAT I, the ACT, and the SAT II – as well as the AP exams, the IB exams, and the other various high school exams for national and international students. At Harvard she worked closely with the Admissions Officers, The College Board and Naviance / high school counselors to ensure that the application process was as simple and clear as possible for students. She advised students on what types of extra-curriculars would impress admissions officers, how to write effective and interesting admissions essays, and essentially, how to best present themselves to the colleges they were applying to.
As one of our Head Tutors, Sophia or one of her team, will be the first person you speak to in Wentworth Tutors. She will be able to discuss everything with you. She will offer advice and recommend to you a bespoke selection of our experienced tutors, offering you only the tutors who we think are best suited to your particular situation. As one of our Head Tutors, Sophia also manages our tutors and existing clients, so please feel free to get into contact if you have any queries.
