Our French Tutors

We have tutors who have taught all ages, at all levels, and to all abilities. That means that they have the experience to focus on your particular learning style and needs. Our tutors have all studied their relevant language(s) at university; most in Oxford, Cambridge or one of the Ivy League Colleges. Some have done or are doing doctorates.

French Tutoring at Wentworth Education

French tutoring at Wentworth Education takes many forms. This can vary from sessions focussed principally on grammar: consolidating areas covered at school, teaching new tenses and practising newly acquired skills in writing and conversation; to work on cultural topics such as current affairs, literature and film.

French Exam Preparation

Exams for Modern Languages are designed to test four core skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. Our tutors are here to provide tailored support in each of these areas. They will work with you on your exam technique, as well as ensuring your knowledge of grammar and relevant vocabulary is up to scratch.

For revision-focused tutorials, we recommend regular sessions that concentrate on refining exam technique and resolving specific problem-areas. By reviewing homework, class assessments and mock exam papers together, we identify the particular challenges faced by the student, and ensure that these issues are resolved in plenty of time for the exam.

Beyond examinations, it is important to recognise that, perhaps more than any other subject, language-learning is a skill that extends far beyond assessment. As such, our tutors consistently place emphasis on the application of acquired language skills in real-life scenarios.

Since September 2017 I have been tutoring full-time. I am now living in Clapham, and particularly specialise in French tuition all the way from the age of 7 to undergraduate level. I graduated from the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain (my hometown) in 2014 with a degree in Modern Languages and Literature, specialising in French, Spanish, and English. After that I moved to France where I graduated with a Masters Degree in Translation from the University of Angers. Following this I started a PhD in French Linguistics applied to the teaching of French as a foreign language at the Complutense University of Madrid. Over the past three years I have had the good fortune of teaching students of many different nationalities, at university level in various institutions in France including the University of Angers, L’UCO (L’Université Catholique de L’Ouest) and the Ecole Supérieure des Sciences Commerciales d'Angers (ESSCA) which offers programs all over the world in Paris, Shangai and Budapest.

I specialise in US exam preparation, reading comprehension, Art History, English (writing and literature), History, and French language. I have benefitted from one-on-one tutoring throughout my education in order to prepare for standardized tests (ISEE/SSAT, SAT/ACT, GRE), which helped me build confidence and was a huge factor in my success. Having grown up in Manhattan and having attended boarding school and university in the US, I am intimately acquainted with the American educational system and the testing and admissions processes for US high schools and universities. Because of my background, I am well equipped to provide admission advice and counselling.

In New York, I attended a private, all-girls school, Convent of the Sacred Heart, before continuing my education at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut. At Choate, I took many Advanced Placement and honors courses. I achieved a 35 (of 36) on my ACT and 5's on my Art History, French, English Literature, and European History AP exams. I attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where I double-majored in Art History and French. Before beginning my graduate studies in September 2019, in order to improve my German, I attended the Middlebury College Intensive Summer Language Program in Middlebury, Vermont, an 8 week, immersive program where all classes and socialising are conducted in German. I moved to London in 2019 to attend the master's programme in the History of Art at the Courtauld Institute (M.A. distinction, 2020; course: German Modernism: Politics, Utopia, and Times of Turmoil).

A personable, articulate Cambridge graduate, who loves working with young people. I’m a natural problem solver, with a strong desire to ensure the success of my students. My strengths as a tutor involve creating a calm, non-judgemental space to learn, which I find allows students to develop their confidence and discover their talents.

At school, I combined a stellar rugby career, playing to a county standard, with academic excellence, achieving top grade A-Levels across the board, and earning a place at the University of Cambridge. I graduated from the University of Cambridge with a very solid 2.1 degree in Theology and Religious Studies in 2013. In my final year at Cambridge, I was the captain of the Clare College University Challenge team, making the quarter finals of the nationally televised competition.

My desire to teach began while I was still at school: Aged 16, I volunteered teaching English in my lunch breaks at my local primary school, and mentoring younger students at my own school who were not achieving their potential.

I have always been attracted to a wide range of challenges. After graduating from Cambridge, I began training as a secondary school RE teacher. I then pursued a career in fundraising, spending the last two years with the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in London. I am now exploring training as a psychotherapist. ...
I recently graduated from Oxford University with a first class degree in English Language and Literature. Before that I attended Eton College on a full bursary, where I was awarded an Oppidan Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. I left Eton with three A*'s and an A at A Level.

My educational background means that I have a thorough knowledge of the private educational sector in the UK, from scholarship exams, to writing personal statements, all the way through to preparing for decisive Oxbridge interviews.

My teaching experience has helped me become a non-judgemental, patient tutor, who understands that making learning enjoyable is key to anyone's academic success. ...
I am a friendly, encouraging teacher with over a decade's experience, particularly with students aged 11-13. Since graduating from Cambridge 13 years ago I have taught students of all sorts of abilities and ages (5-58) anywhere from Notting Hill to Nairobi. My curiosity about the world has drawn me to journalism as well as teaching. I worked at the Telegraph for two years and now I write about arts and culture for The Economist’s 1843, The Spectator and Apollo magazines. I am also the co-author of 'What on Earth is Going On? A Crash Course in Current Affairs' (HarperCollins, 2009 - Sunday Times 'Stocking Filler of the Year'). Both my teaching and writing are informed by a desire to understand the world, and to help others do so too. ...
I grew up trilingual between the UK, France and Italy and went on to study at the University of Cambridge, where I was twice awarded a scholarship by my college. I took a 1st in Modern Languages at Part I (French, Italian and Ukrainian), and on my return from a year abroad spent working in Paris and Rome, took a 2:1 in Politics and International Relations at Part II. Throughout my time at Oxford and UCL, I have accumulated extensive experience tutoring privately for a range of abilities, from pre-test to university admissions, including undergraduate and postgraduate study. Although my main subject is English, I have a strong interest in other languages and arts. Having grown up in Paris with dual English/Italian nationality, I am a native speaker of English, Italian and French, and can speak conversational Spanish. My interest and ability in History of Art has lead me to teaching the subject for the General Paper of the Eton Oppidan Scholarship. My constant desire to learn and develop intellectually is something which is greatly helped by tutoring, and this passion is one I seek to instil in all my tutees. ...
