Physics Exam Preparation

More often than not, however, we find ourselves helping prepare students for exams. We have helped students prepare for UK exams: 11+ and 13+ Science, GCSE Physics, A Level and Pre-U Physics; and for US courses: AP Physics B, AP Physics C (Mechanics and Electricty and magnetism).

For exam preparation programmes we recommend intense and focused revision sessions where we immediately drill down to identify the exam question types and topics the student is having most trouble with. We start by reviewing student homework, practice tests and mock exams (we can help set these if needed) and identifying question types where the student is struggling most. We then work through these question types and topics one by one, solving multiple variations of the same question with the student, until they are comfortable and confident to answer them on their own, in exam conditions. We prioritise confidence building, exam technique and teaching the ability to break down questions and answer exam questions efficiently and effectively. In the final few sessions before a big test we discuss exam day tactics and what questions a student should leave until last and which ones they should tackle first.

I grew up in Devon and went to a local Grammar School, where I first started tutoring whilst studying for my A-levels. I went on to study Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating in 2013 with an MA (1st-class) and MMATH (Merit). I was offered a place at Warwick University to study for my PhD, but ended up changing fields. I am now studying Medicine on an accelerated graduate entry program at Barts and the London School of Medicine, graduating in 2018.

Although I've ended my own career in Maths for now I have never lost my passion for the subject, and enjoy continuing this through tutoring. I've worked with students of all abilities, with the bulk of my experience tutoring Maths and Physics at A-level and GCSE standard. I also tutor Biology and Chemistry, drawing on the past two years I have spent studying Medicine. Studying Medicine has enhanced my tutoring ability, as we spend a considerable amount of time developing our communication skills. ...
I have been studying with degree level students for years and find tailoring concepts and processes to an individual’s interests exciting. I’m patient and disciplined and enjoy the reward of helping students move past plateaus in their learning, and with a diverse background in many subject areas I can adapt lessons and study to a wide range of individual needs. ...
I graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge in 2013 in Natural Sciences (specialising in chemistry) and went straight onto the Teach First graduate programme. I am a professional, enthusiastic and committed teacher who is passionate about sharing knowledge and experience with students of all ages and abilities. At Essa, I strive to instil in my students a determination to succeed and a confidence in their own abilities that allows them to maximise their potential – qualities that I have transferred to tutoring with great success. ...
I am in my first year at university, studying mathematics at the University of Cambridge. In my time at Winchester College, I often helped others when they were struggling with their work for IGCSE or PreU maths and sciences, both my peers and boys in the younger years. I also spent time helping with science lessons in local primary schools. I enjoy helping others to understand difficult concepts in maths and science

I have been selected for the UK team for the International Olympiad in Astronomy and Astrophysics, which takes place in India in December. I have been training for it over the past few months, and will continue to until December. I also reached final selection rounds for both the Chemistry and Biology Olympiad teams.

Over the summers of 2014 and '16, I designed and built this website, and have been webmaster since. ...
I recently completed my Natural Sciences degree at Christ's College Cambridge, where for my first two years I read maths, physics, and chemistry. In my final year I received the second highest First in the university in history and philosophy of science. Before Cambridge I went to Oundle School, a private boarding school in Northamptonshire.

After a stint working at the Cabinet Office I am now a studying for my Graduate Diploma in Law. My timetable is flexible and essentially self-managed, giving me lots of time to tutor outside of my legal studies.

I started tutoring my friends and peers while at school and have now been tutoring for around 7 years. In that time I have mostly taught maths, english, physics, chemistry and history at GCSE and A level, but have recently begun more intensive tutoring for the UK's 11+ and 13+ exams. ...
