Nicolas Pimpare - Private Tutor in London Southbank
I was brought up in Paris and moved to London to study at Imperial College, where I obtained a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Theoretical Physics with High First Class honours. My research focussed on the way in which alternative logic systems can help us bridge the gap between quantum mechanics and relativity. I was awarded Associateship of the Royal College of Science. Although I am a science specialist, I also have a strong background in English and Verbal Reasoning. I sat the GRE in 2016 for entrance to US Grad School and got exceptionally good grades (Verbal Reasoning - 99th percentile, Analytical Writing - 93rd percentile). Since 2011, I have offered private tuition for all major examination boards as well as working for the Imperial College summer schools.

My Tutoring & Teaching Experience
I tutored throughout my time at Imperial College, as well as working for the Imperial College Summer Schools where I have taught maths, robotics and forensic science to students from all over the world. Since graduating in 2014, I have tutored extensively both in London and abroad in residential placements.
I specialise in enabling high achievers to fulfill their potential when the support they get from their schools is not adequate. However, I also have a history of success in empowering under-performing students by giving them the confidence and tools to flourish.
My Approach to Tutoring
I am a young tutor who loves learning and wants to communicate that passion. Real academic success comes from a deep understanding of a subject ant its relation to the world. That is why I believe that any student can excel as long as they know why they are working and learn to truly enjoy it.
On the technical side, I pay special attention to understanding mark schemes, deconstructing exams and working on unique exam strategies for every pupil. All too often, students lose confidence because they are not taught exam technique, which is a subtle and complicated skill in and of itself.
Finally, as a Theatre Director with a background in Physics, I strongly believe in transferable skills. There are tangible links between the sciences and the arts. If those links are uncovered, a subject which a student "hates" can very easily become manageable.
Fun Facts About Me
As well as tutoring I am a professional Theatre Director and Actor. In my spare time I play the sitar and guitar. I stopped playing rugby a few years ago after coming to terms with the fact that I just don't have the appropriate build (too short!) but I'm still a fervent fan of my home team - Stade Francais Paris.
My Client Testimonials
"Bethany was at this time, very insecure at Maths, working at a borderline C/B, and she found her school teacher's explanations very difficult to follow. Immediately she started working with Nico, her confidence increased. Nico is a very patient, calm tutor who takes the work at a pace to suit his student. Bethany found his explanations very clear and methodical - he explained processes to her in a way that made them stick in her head. She enjoyed his sessions, never felt pressurised, but made very steady progress. He is both highly knowledgeable but also able to explain methods in a way that makes them clear. Bethany achieved an A grade in her GCSE which we were delighted with, and attribute mainly to Nico's intervention. "
2nd Year Undergraduate Maths/Physics: Quantum Mechanics, Advanced Classical Mechanics, and Mathematical Methods
"Nicolas was extremely helpful. He was able to walk me through problems very diligently providing thorough explanations to his answers, where I would not have understood otherwise."
STEP II, STEP III, A Level Further Maths (M4, M5, FP3)
"As my school teachers were unable to teach me these topics I am particularly grateful to Nicolas for being prepared and capable of answering any of the problems I was struggling on. Nicolas was always flexible to fit his tuition into my often changing schedule and always arrived punctually. Nicolas' teaching style is efficient and easy to understand. His planning helped me identify areas I needed to focus on."
AS and A Level Physics
"We found Nicolas to be engaging and our son found that the subject was addressed in a methodical way that was easy to follow and he felt he benefitted considerably from the tuition he received. He feels that the experience has been a considerable boost to his confidence. I would also mention that it has been a pleasure to have Nicolas staying in our house during the period of tuition. "
A Level Further Maths (M4, M5)
"Nicolas is a talented teacher and he combined a thorough knowledge of the exam requirements with a delightful teaching style. He took the complex further maths concepts and worked back to first principles which she enjoyed. He helped find elusive practice questions which ensured that her revision was thorough. He set and marked work and gave feedback which built up her confidence. He was well prepared and ensured that she was too, she achieved 100% in both modules and she now reads English at Oxford. My husband and I also enjoyed our drives to and from the station with Nicolas and miss the wide ranging and happy conversations. We recommend him unreservedly."
