Why Study Biology?

Biology has changed beyond recognition in the last 50 years. The emergence of genetics and cell and molecular biology has yielded medicines and technology that affects all of our lives. Biology also opens doors to other arenas: the pharmaceutical industry, clinical medicine, and cinematography for nature and television programmes all rely on extensive knowledge in diverse areas of Biology.

Biology Tutors

Our biology tutors have all studied biology at university. One of the biggest challenges any biology student has to face is the vast knowledge base required to succeed. Our tutors draw on experience of science teaching and communication as well as higher education to share their excitement in the field. Our tutors are excellent at distilling the relevant facts and high yield concepts that students absolutely must know as well as cementing a large body of knowledge. Additionally, some of our tutors are medical students who can marry abstract concepts and facts with clinically relevant examples.

Biology Teaching

We teach biology at all levels including GCSE, A level, SAT II, AP, and IB. All of these syllabi have their idiosyncrasies that our international group of tutors are experts at navigating. In particular, we are very experienced at helping British students fill in their knowledge gaps in order to excel at the SAT II Biology exams in preparation for university in the US. Our teaching staff also includes biology PhD candidates and clinical medical students who can advise and teach university level biology and medicine.

I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2019 with a BA in Human Sciences. Based in Central London, I now split my time between teaching and music.

I have significant experience as a tutor (40+ hours since the start of the academic year) and have recently taken on a classroom teaching job at The Academy School, Hampstead, where I teach KS3 Science.

Studying a uniquely broad degree and benefitting from outstanding teaching at Oxford, I have developed a strong understanding of the biological sciences (from Ecology to Animal Behaviour to Genetics), leading me to focus on tutoring Biology to A-Level (or below). I was a College Scholar at Oxford and have maintained a strong academic record throughout my education, achieving 2A* (Chemistry and Biology) and 1A (Maths) at A-Level while at Mount Kelly School.

My tutoring style is responsive and comprehensive, going far beyond the time I spend with a tutee. I believe that the most productive tutoring involves solutions and resources tailed to individual learning challenges - this preparation process is an essential part of my teaching style. ...
I graduated last year with a 1st in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford. My experience as a tutor extends across different levels and subjects, from teaching English as a foreign language to 11+ exams, and university entrance preparation. Throughout the years, I have worked with students on a wide range of curriculums to hone their skills and expand not only their knowledge, but also their interest and love for the subject. Having won a bursary to attend Wellington College in 2011, I studied the IB, and was one of the very few students in the world to achieve a maximum of 45 points. Some of the distinctions I was awarded for my academic performances include the Gavin Ewart Poetry Prize, the Verrall English Prize, the Music Essay Prize, and the Lady Emma Talbot Special Prize. I went on to earn a place at Oxford University where I read BA Honours in English Language and Literature. Following my Distinction in Prelims, I was awarded the Casberd Scholarship for outstanding results. ...
I recently graduated from Oxford University with a first class degree in English Language and Literature. Before that I attended Eton College on a full bursary, where I was awarded an Oppidan Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. I left Eton with three A*'s and an A at A Level.

My passion for teaching started when in my penultimate year at school I volunteered at a local special educational needs school. I found it immensely rewarding to instill in my students an enthusiasm for learning that led to understanding and success.

My educational background means that I have a thorough knowledge of the private educational sector in the UK, from scholarship exams, to writing personal statements, all the way through to preparing for decisive Oxbridge interviews.

My teaching experience has helped me become a non-judgemental, patient tutor, who understands that making learning enjoyable is key to anyone's academic success. ...
I am a Mechanical Engineer turned teacher and outdoor instructor with a love of learning that I am keen to share. I hold an undergraduate masters in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College London (1st class honours) and am qualifying this summer as a Science teacher with a Physics specialism. Following graduating, I worked as Sustainability Engineer in the construction industry and subsequently as a Development Engineer for a small scale start-up. In 2018 I decided that my passion lay in education rather than engineering and since then I have worked in outdoor education and qualified as a teacher. I have worked with a diverse mix of students: from age 10-18 with wide ranging ambitions, in the classroom, on a one-to-one basis, and outdoors. ...
I am entering my penultimate year of the highly competitive accelerated Graduate Medicine degree at King's College London where I am in the top decile and was previously awarded a first class degree from UCL in Neurophysiology and Neuropharmacology. I am particularly passionate about Psychiatry, Neurology and Extreme Physiology.

Since 2014, while studying I have worked continuously in the service industry (as one of a 6 person team behind one of London's top craft breweries), entertainment (as a host for live music events across London) and in drug policy and harm reduction (as a content producer and spokesperson for the Alcohol and Drug Education Consultancy). I have also worked as a STEM and Medical Admissions Tutor over the last two years.

Medical school is a hugely collaborative environment where budding medics learn by teaching. Making use of my natural ability to communicate and motivate others, I have become increasingly involved in education and I am currently working towards qualification as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Authority (AFHEA). I sit on the KCL Wilderness Medicine Society committee as Training Course Officer and I am the founder and president of the KCL Surf Club. ...
I am a graduate from Cambridge with 6 years teaching experience at some of the best schools in the country, including St Paul's School, helping students of all ages and abilities understand and appreciate chemistry. I take great pleasure finding the best way to approach difficult topics with students and try to make all of my lessons as relevant and engaging as possible. ...
I am currently studying for a Master's degree in Psychology at UCL, having already graduated with a 2:1 in Natural Sciences at Nottingham University where I specialised in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. As part of my undergraduate degree I tutored GCSE and A-level students in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I also conducted research examining the efficacy of psychotherapeutic medication and reviewed the literature on virtual reality therapy’s benefit as an intervention in weakness following a stroke. Between the ages of 11 and 18, I attended Manchester Grammar School where I achieved 7A* grades at GCSE and AAB at A-level. This experience has given me a very strong understanding, not only of the relevant exam specifications, but also what exactly is needed for students to achieve the top grades and go on to thrive at Russell Group universities. I am very grateful for the teachers and role models I have had, and I am very happy that I can contribute in a similar way. ...

My research focused on the way in which alternative logic systems can help us bridge the gap between quantum mechanics and relativity. I was awarded Associateship of the Royal College of Science.

Although I am a science specialist, I also have a strong background in English and Verbal Reasoning. I sat the GRE in 2016 for entrance to US Grad School and got exceptionally good grades (Verbal Reasoning - 99th percentile, Analytical Writing - 93rd percentile).

Since 2011, I have offered private tuition for all major examination boards as well as working for the Imperial College summer schools. ...
