Latin Tutoring
Latin is seen by many as the pinnacle of education in the humanities. Challenging and fulfilling in equal measure, this subject rewards any curious student with access to some of the most fascinating poetry, history and philosophy ever written. It is an essential component of our Latin teaching at Wentworth Education that students be given access to these ancient texts as early as possible. Nothing inspires a young mind quite like realising they are decoding Julius Caesar’s words for themselves. Likewise, a new student will soon discover that their surroundings are filled with Latin, carved into the walls of school buildings, churches and museums. Their understanding of modern European languages will be significantly enhanced by a newfound ability to trace the roots of most of the words they encounter in French, Italian and Spanish among others. With all the advantages this subject offers its easy to understand why we are so passionate about teaching Latin at Wentworth!
Latin Exams
In order to truly understand the British school system, you need to understand the importance of Latin. An essential component of all humanities education for hundreds of years, Latin still makes up a large part of many school entrance exams and university degrees. Many of our tutors honed their Latin skills on the notoriously difficult Oxford University ‘Literae Humaniores’ degree program. A mixture of classical literature, ancient history and modern philosophy, this course is perhaps the most prestigious degree that Oxford offers and certainly among the most challenging. We provide tutoring for all levels of Latin, from early introductions to the foundations of the language, to common entrance preparation and on to GCSE and A-Level tuition. For those students embarking on a degree in Classics our tutors are on hand to assist with the highest level of translation work and share their many insights into the study of Latin at an undergraduate and graduate level.
