My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I first started teaching in 2005 as a volunteer teaching underprivileged students to play wind instruments in Trenton, NJ. For the last decade I have taught privately and through nonprofit organisations. I have taught subjects including History, English, Mathematics, and Sciences to students from all over the world. I also teach the SAT, ACT, SSAT, and ACT exams. The resources that I have developed for these exams are now employed by the Wentworth network of tutors.

I have additionally started the US College Consulting, UK Applications, International Relocation, Schools Advice, Homeschooling, and Pro Bono arms of Wentworth Tutors

My Approach to Tutoring

My tutoring style is a combination of rigour and discipline in an environment that is engaging and relaxing. I ask questions of my students to help them articulate their learning process. I also encourage students to develop structure in how they approach problems: a skill that is invaluable whether writing an essay or solving a complex mathematics problem. I believe that in today's educational world, students are too often afraid to ask questions. I have often observed that these questions are not only very insightful but are extremely helpful to students in clarifying their own conceptual understanding. I have a relaxed style while actively encouraging my students to ask any and all questions about which we then discuss.

Fun Facts About Me

I recently spoke at the American School of London's TedX talk about college interview questions. In my spare time I like to ski and sail.

I'm originally from New York, and have been living in London for a bit over a year now. After graduating from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Creative Writing (Cum Laude), I received my Master's degree from the London Film School. I've been privately tutoring for years, as a peer tutor on Harvard's campus with the Bureau of Study Council, as well as with private agencies. I also have extensive experience as an Admissions Representative in the Harvard Admissions Office. I specialise in the American curriculum and US College Counselling, but know and work with the English curriculum as well. ...
I have experience teaching a range of ages, both privately part-time and in full time employment as a teacher at Hurstpierpoint College, where I worked for a year before starting my degree at Oxford University. I have a particular interest in entrance into the UK's top schools and Universities, teaching 11 plus, Common Entrance, and preparing students for Oxbridge. I am aided by a detailed understanding of UK independent schools as well as experience preparing for the American education system at ISEE and SSAT level in particular. I have delivered private tuition to children between 5 and 20 years. I find tutoring immensely rewarding and particularly enjoy the focused nature of assisting an individual with their academic goals. ...
I studied Natural Sciences at Pembroke College, Cambridge graduating with a II.I in my Chemistry Master’s and with a first in my Bachelor’s in Natural Sciences. I was brought up in Central London where I attended Glendower and St Paul's Girls' School. After that, I went on to read Engineering at Trinity College, Cambridge, before working at Goldman Sachs for the past two and half years. Earlier this year I left the City in order to pursue a long standing interest in Medicine. I have always loved Maths and Science and truly believe that we need to encourage students to continue with their STEM subjects. Having had some fantastic teachers throughout my education I really understand the importance of engaging with students, and ensuring that sessions are fun and in context. Having gone through the UK private school system myself, I am very familiar with the quirks of the British education system, from picking secondary schools at 11 or 13 plus, to navigating the university application system. ...
