My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I successfully organised a revision camp in spring and summer 2016 at Regents College, London and Bradfield College, Reading respectively. During each course, I was in charge of more than 100 students and 20 staff members, ensuring students received the best possible revision courses.

I have tutored revision courses for Chemistry HL & SL, Biology HL and Maths HL, amounting to more than 400 hours of tutoring. As well as this, I have gone on to tutor students privately, giving them the extra help they needed to achieve their desired grade and working with them to improve their extended essays in Chemistry or Biology. For the past five years I have mostly focussed on A level, IB and GCSE tuition in all sciences and maths, with students achieving their predictions or above and enabling them to attend their preferred university. As well as this, I have prepared students applying for Oxford and Cambridge in Natural Sciences and Medicine, helping them prepare their personal statements, admissions exams and interview practice.

My Approach to Tutoring

A lot of students find the sciences very boring so I aim to show them the opposite and show them just how important what they study at school is! My lessons are fun and interactive because they incorporate a lot of demonstrations such as the usage of balloons in explaining the 3D shapes of molecules. This not only enthuses students but also helps in learning the material as the demonstrations are very memorable.

All of my lessons are based around the syllabus for that qualification and incorporate exam questions from day one in order to eliminate the fear that surrounds exams. Though I encourage students to learn beyond the scope of the exams, I make sure that first and foremost we're covering all the material needed for them to get the best results possible!

Fun Facts About Me

I'm a keen sports player - at Cambridge I fenced for Cambridge in the match against Oxford and rowed for my college. I have also been playing tennis since I was 8 years old and though a little rusty, I still love playing in my free time.

Music has also played a key role in my life as I completed all piano grades aged 13 and am currently preparing for my piano diploma. I also used to play the violin in a range of ensembles ranging from quartets to large orchestras. Sadly I stopped playing once I got to Uni though!

My Client Testimonials

  • IB Chemistry HL
"Marta went through the syllabus, point by point to ensure everything had been covered. She would explain concepts to me and then ask me questions about those concepts to make sure I had understood everything that had been said. Marta would then choose the adequate questions from papers covering that topic so that I learned how to apply the knowledge to exams at the same time as learning the material."
  • General
"Marta is friendly, honest, very knowledgeable in the areas she teaches, professional and always has her lessons meticulously planned. I couldn’t have appreciated her teaching more and highly recommend her as a tutor."
  • Chemistry
"Marta was a pleasure to be taught by. She emphasized that no question was a dumb question so I always felt comfortable to ask her anything and to ask her to repeat explanations."
  • IB Chemistry
"My son had his first session with Marta yesterday and it went really well. May son may need help with IB Maths as well - I will check with Marta on that. Many thanks [to Wentworth Tutors] for introducing Marta to us."

I'm a graduate medical student at King's College London, having previously studied Biomedical Science as an undergraduate at Imperial College London.

I have experience in teaching maths, biology and the ISEE. In addition, I've spent time working with children as a nanny, and volunteering at youth and children's groups, both in the UK and abroad. I am currently studying for a Master's degree in Psychology at UCL, having already graduated with a 2:1 in Natural Sciences at Nottingham University where I specialised in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. As part of my undergraduate degree I tutored GCSE and A-level students in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I also conducted research examining the efficacy of psychotherapeutic medication and reviewed the literature on virtual reality therapy’s benefit as an intervention in weakness following a stroke. Between the ages of 11 and 18, I attended Manchester Grammar School where I achieved 7A* grades at GCSE and AAB at A-level. This experience has given me a very strong understanding, not only of the relevant exam specifications, but also what exactly is needed for students to achieve the top grades and go on to thrive at Russell Group universities. I am very grateful for the teachers and role models I have had, and I am very happy that I can contribute in a similar way. ...
I have worked with degree level students for years and find tailoring concepts and processes to an individual’s interests exciting. I’m patient and disciplined and enjoy the reward of helping students move past plateaus in their learning, and with a diverse background in many subject areas I can adapt lessons and study to a wide range of individual needs. I am currently working as a doctor and was recently made a teaching coordinator for third year medical students on the Imperial MBBS programme placed at Northwick Park Hospital. ...

I am a passionate private tutor with over 8 years of experience and an excellent track record. I tutor a range of subjects with a particular focus on Maths and the Sciences and Oxbridge and Medical School applications. During my education, I was an Academic Scholar at Alleyn's School, where I achieved straight A*s at GCSE and A level before heading to Cambridge, where I studied Natural Sciences. At Cambridge, I took modules in Maths, Chemistry and Biochemistry and specialised in Cancer, Genetics and Virology. During my time at Cambridge, I was awarded 2 academic scholarships as well as a choral scholarship. Following Cambridge I enjoyed a brief stint in Investment Banking at Morgan Stanley, where my desire to pursue a career in Medicine crystallised. I started studying Graduate Medicine at Imperial College London with an entry scholarship in 2017. I achieved a starred distinction in my first year exams and was awarded a prize for coming top of my year in Anatomy & Physiology. I strive to transfer the passion, understanding and study skills I have developed during my own education to my students, to help them excel both at school and in their futures. ...
I am entering my penultimate year of the highly competitive accelerated Graduate Medicine degree at King's College London where I am in the top decile and was previously awarded a first class degree from UCL in Neurophysiology and Neuropharmacology. I am particularly passionate about Psychiatry, Neurology and Extreme Physiology.

Since 2014, while studying I have worked continuously in the service industry (as one of a 6 person team behind one of London's top craft breweries), entertainment (as a host for live music events across London) and in drug policy and harm reduction (as a content producer and spokesperson for the Alcohol and Drug Education Consultancy). I have also worked as a STEM and Medical Admissions Tutor over the last two years.

Medical school is a hugely collaborative environment where budding medics learn by teaching. Making use of my natural ability to communicate and motivate others, I have become increasingly involved in education and I am currently working towards qualification as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Authority (AFHEA). I sit on the KCL Wilderness Medicine Society committee as Training Course Officer and I am the founder and president of the KCL Surf Club. ...
I am entering my fifth year studying Medicine at King's College London, a subject that constantly provides its scholars with evolving learning opportunities and requires a dynamic problem solving ability. My study in Medicine has two sides; I have a large interest in the innermost workings of the human body and find its intricacies fascinating, from hard numbers in physiology and biochemistry to the art of anatomy. On the other hand, I also enjoy the patient-doctor interaction and its cultivation through effective communication and problem resolving skills. I organise a London-wide society interested in the specialty of Sports Medicine with the aim of narrowing the gap between the professional and undergraduate worlds. This aim relies heavily on recruiting valuable speakers and opportunities, whilst coordinating the activities of my society and those of university-based societies. I also sit on the committee of the UK's undergraduate Sports Medicine society. My success through my medical career insofar has been built on utilisation of different learning techniques to understand and confidently apply information. I also embrace techniques such as goal-setting to formulate long term plans for personal and organisational development. I was educated at a state comprehensive in Garston, Watford. Throughout secondary school, I did not enjoy the teaching as I was unable to engage with the material or teachers. I missed out on valuable opportunities and my grades foundered. At GCSE level, however, I had great benefit after I started extra-curricular tuition, an experience that made my learning more accessible and enjoyable. Since then, I have embraced 'learning' as a process to be developed, understood and enjoyed. Throughout medical school I have aided colleagues with their own learning and last year, formally tutored for medical practical exams. Outside of Medicine, I like to do many things! I am a keen sportsman, representing King's College London Cycling team. I play a variety of different sports, and am still keen to throw a rugby ball around. I have an extensive reading list that I am working through, and I like to paint when I have a spare weekend. ...

I achieved 5 A*s at A-level (with a 96.1% average at A2), taking subjects: Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and Religious Studies. At Cambridge, whilst covering the full range of biological disciplines in first year (from Ecology to Biochemistry) as well as maths, I chose to specialise in Physiology, Development, and Neuroscience in my final year. On top of this, I maintain an interest in Evolutionary Biology (I am a big fan of Richard Dawkins!). For several years at Tonbridge school, I was involved in a community action program called 'Science For Schools', where we would host groups of primary school children weekly, running practicals and performing exciting demonstrations for them; the purpose being to try to encourage enthusiasm for science ...
