Nicolas Pimpare - Private Tutor in London Southbank

Nicolas Pimpare Private Tutor in London Southbank

I was brought up in Paris and moved to London to study at Imperial College, where I obtained a Bachelor’s and Master's degree in Theoretical Physics with High First Class honours. My research focused on the way in which alternative logic systems can help us bridge the gap between quantum mechanics and relativity. I was awarded Associateship of the Royal College of Science.

Although I am a science specialist, I also have a strong background in English and Verbal Reasoning. I sat the GRE in 2016 for entrance to US Grad School and got exceptionally good grades (Verbal Reasoning - 99th percentile, Analytical Writing - 93rd percentile).

Since 2011, I have offered private tuition for all major examination boards as well as working for the Imperial College summer schools.

My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I tutored throughout my time at Imperial College, as well as working for the Imperial College Summer Schools where I have taught maths, robotics and forensic science to students from all over the world. Since graduating in 2014, I have tutored extensively both in London and abroad in residential placements.

I specialise in enabling high achievers to fulfill their potential when the support they get from their schools is not adequate. However, I also have a history of success in empowering under-performing students by giving them the confidence and tools to flourish.

My Approach to Tutoring

I am a young tutor who loves learning and wants to communicate that passion. Real academic success comes from a deep understanding of a subject ant its relation to the world. That is why I believe that any student can excel as long as they know why they are working and learn to truly enjoy it.

On the technical side, I pay special attention to understanding mark schemes, deconstructing exams and working on unique exam strategies for every pupil. All too often, students lose confidence because they are not taught exam technique, which is a subtle and complicated skill in and of itself.

Finally, as a Theatre Director with a background in Physics, I strongly believe in transferable skills. There are tangible links between the sciences and the arts. If those links are uncovered, a subject which a student "hates" can very easily become manageable.

Fun Facts About Me

As well as tutoring I am a professional Theatre Director and Actor. In my spare time I play the sitar and guitar. I stopped playing rugby a few years ago after coming to terms with the fact that I just don't have the appropriate build (too short!) but I'm still a fervent fan of my home team - Stade Francais Paris.

I grew up in Devon and went to a local Grammar School, where I first started tutoring whilst studying for my A-levels. I went on to study Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating in 2013 with an MA (1st-class) and MMATH (Merit). I was offered a place at Warwick University to study for my PhD, but ended up changing fields. I am now studying Medicine on an accelerated graduate entry program at Barts and the London School of Medicine, graduating in 2018.

Although I've ended my own career in Maths for now I have never lost my passion for the subject, and enjoy continuing this through tutoring. I've worked with students of all abilities, with the bulk of my experience tutoring Maths and Physics at A-level and GCSE standard. I also tutor Biology and Chemistry, drawing on the past two years I have spent studying Medicine. Studying Medicine has enhanced my tutoring ability, as we spend a considerable amount of time developing our communication skills. ...
I have been tutoring in London ever since I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2013 with an undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. ...
My name is Sasha and I'm a junior doctor working at Homerton University Hospital, in North-East London. I completed an undergraduate degree, and Masters, in chemistry (with chemical biology) at Magdalen College, Oxford, and then went on to study Medicine (Graduate-Entry) at King's College London. I have been tutoring for the past 7 years, across a range of subjects and levels; my aim is always to broaden and develop my students' understanding of their subject, before going on to develop exam technique and build confidence. ...
I am a fourth year Physics PhD student at UCL. My occupation relies on my ability to understand complex theoretical concepts and explain them to both technical and non-technical experts.

I am a high achiever, obtaining a First Class (Hons) MPhys Theoretical Physics from The University of Sheffield. In my final year I scored the highest grade in the University for "Analytical Dynamics and Classical Field Theory" (93%). Other final year results include 88% in "Advanced Quantum Mechanics" and 84% in "Aspects of Modern Physics". I currently work in theoretical/computational quantum physics looking at electron scattering in molecules. Therefore I have a good grounding in maths, physics and programming.

I studied all three sciences, maths and further maths at A-level. For G.C.S.E I took triple science, maths and electronics (in addition to 7 other subjects).

In addition to my academic experience I have over two years corporate experience. I successfully completed a highly competitive internship and graduate scheme at Barclays Bank PLC, where I worked predominantly in Credit Risk and Credit Risk Modelling. I left the Bank so that I could develop my technical skills, such as, quantitative analysis and programming. Due to my experience working in a professional environment I am also well equipped to advise students how to write CVs and apply themselves to industry or academia. ...
I have worked with degree level students for years and find tailoring concepts and processes to an individual’s interests exciting. I’m patient and disciplined and enjoy the reward of helping students move past plateaus in their learning, and with a diverse background in many subject areas I can adapt lessons and study to a wide range of individual needs. I am currently working as a doctor and was recently made a teaching coordinator for third year medical students on the Imperial MBBS programme placed at Northwick Park Hospital. ...
I am entering my fifth year studying Medicine at King's College London, a subject that constantly provides its scholars with evolving learning opportunities and requires a dynamic problem solving ability. My study in Medicine has two sides; I have a large interest in the innermost workings of the human body and find its intricacies fascinating, from hard numbers in physiology and biochemistry to the art of anatomy. On the other hand, I also enjoy the patient-doctor interaction and its cultivation through effective communication and problem resolving skills. I organise a London-wide society interested in the specialty of Sports Medicine with the aim of narrowing the gap between the professional and undergraduate worlds. This aim relies heavily on recruiting valuable speakers and opportunities, whilst coordinating the activities of my society and those of university-based societies. I also sit on the committee of the UK's undergraduate Sports Medicine society. My success through my medical career insofar has been built on utilisation of different learning techniques to understand and confidently apply information. I also embrace techniques such as goal-setting to formulate long term plans for personal and organisational development. I was educated at a state comprehensive in Garston, Watford. Throughout secondary school, I did not enjoy the teaching as I was unable to engage with the material or teachers. I missed out on valuable opportunities and my grades foundered. At GCSE level, however, I had great benefit after I started extra-curricular tuition, an experience that made my learning more accessible and enjoyable. Since then, I have embraced 'learning' as a process to be developed, understood and enjoyed. Throughout medical school I have aided colleagues with their own learning and last year, formally tutored for medical practical exams. Outside of Medicine, I like to do many things! I am a keen sportsman, representing King's College London Cycling team. I play a variety of different sports, and am still keen to throw a rugby ball around. I have an extensive reading list that I am working through, and I like to paint when I have a spare weekend. ...
I am currently studying for a Master's degree in Psychology at UCL, having already graduated with a 2:1 in Natural Sciences at Nottingham University where I specialised in Chemistry, Biology and Psychology. As part of my undergraduate degree I tutored GCSE and A-level students in Maths, Biology and Chemistry. I also conducted research examining the efficacy of psychotherapeutic medication and reviewed the literature on virtual reality therapy’s benefit as an intervention in weakness following a stroke. Between the ages of 11 and 18, I attended Manchester Grammar School where I achieved 7A* grades at GCSE and AAB at A-level. This experience has given me a very strong understanding, not only of the relevant exam specifications, but also what exactly is needed for students to achieve the top grades and go on to thrive at Russell Group universities. I am very grateful for the teachers and role models I have had, and I am very happy that I can contribute in a similar way. ...
