I completed both A-level Maths and Further Maths in year 12, with an average score of 97.5%. I achieved S in STEP III.

My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I have plenty of teaching and tutoring experience. I volunteered as a mentor in Cambridge Shadowing Scheme. I spent three days supervising a student who came from a disadvantaged background. I was a tutor in an international summer school. I was responsible for designing and implementing social activities for a class of Chinese students, my duty also included teaching English. Additionally, I assisted a Year 11 Maths classroom for six months and taught STEP in Cambridge University workshops.

My Approach to Tutoring

STEP prepares you for Cambridge Maths Tripos so I adopted the style of Cambridge supervision. I set at least 6 questions every week (students can choose to do some of them), mark them beforehand. In my lesson, I will go through all the questions, highlight the things students did well and had problems, and give a feedback on how to improve techniques at the end of the lesson.

Fun Facts About Me

Outside work, I enjoy playing pool and tennis. I also like reading books, I am a massive fan of Murakami.

I am a Mathematics graduate from Cambridge University, where I specialised in Group theory, Galois theory and Graph theory. Since graduating I have been a Data Analyst and Software Engineer for a startup called MoveGB. I was soon promoted in the company and became a product manager. My next role was in the Marine Insurance industry, however I found teaching Mathematics was much more engaging and interesting for me, so I soon decided to pursue private tuition and have been tutoring ever since. ...

I grew up in Devon and went to a local Grammar School, where I first started tutoring whilst studying for my A-levels. I went on to study Mathematics at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating in 2013 with an MA (1st-class) and MMATH (Merit). I was offered a place at Warwick University to study for my PhD, but ended up changing fields. I am now studying Medicine on an accelerated graduate entry program at Barts and the London School of Medicine, graduating in 2018.

Although I've ended my own career in Maths for now I have never lost my passion for the subject, and enjoy continuing this through tutoring. I've worked with students of all abilities, with the bulk of my experience tutoring Maths and Physics at A-level and GCSE standard. I also tutor Biology and Chemistry, drawing on the past two years I have spent studying Medicine. I graduated from Cambridge University with a first-class BA and a first-class MSci in Natural Sciences (Physical), specialising in Physics after my first year; in my final (Master's) year I achieved a mark of 80%, finishing in the top 20 of my year. Since university, I have worked for three years as a management consultant in aviation, but am now returning to university (Imperial College London) to study for a Masters in environmental technology.

As part of my degree, I completed a course in Physics Education. I also taught Maths on a voluntary basis during my final year at university and spent a summer in Spain teaching English. Having enjoyed my previous experiences in teaching and mentoring younger colleagues at work, I am excited about the prospect of tutoring in Maths and Physics in London; I still retain a strong interest in the subjects and hope to communicate this interest to students, perhaps encouraging them to pursue a career in science or mathematics! ...
