ISEE & SSAT Tutoring & Test Prep

ISEE and SSAT are used for application to some secondary schools in the United States. We can provide tutors who are experienced at teaching and mentoring students through their preparation for these tests. But we can also monitor progress through mock exams we organise. Our tutor (and you) will be able to see student progression and test feedback; we use this to tailor our tutoring approach to maximise impact.

See more detail on our ISEE and SSAT tutoring or read about the differences between the ISEE and the SSAT.

American (USA) Schools Consulting

We help families moving to the United States every year to select schools in areas ranging from Seattle to Houston, LA to New York, and Greenwich to Baltimore. Each year we also help many students gain access to the UK based American schools such as ASL, ACL and TASIS. Additionally we tutor, on a weekly basis, numerous students attending these UK based American schools.

US High School & Preparing For College

SAT I

The SAT I assesses the skills that are taught in all schools: reading, writing, and mathematics. It lasts 3 hours and 45 minutes. The Critical Reading section asks questions about sentence completion and passage-based analysis through the use of long and short texts. The Mathematics test has two types of questions: multiple choice and student-completed. The Mathematics portion assesses numeracy, algebra, geometry, data analysis, statistics, and probability. The Writing portion of the exam is divided into two parts: multiple choice questions based on error detection and a long essay. We provide classes before some of the SAT I exam dates so please contact us to discuss your needs.

See more detail on our SAT I tutoring. Or read our article on the frequently asked questions and the differences between the SAT I vs ACT.

ACT

Some students will prefer to sit the ACT which is similar to the SAT but has four sections: Critical Reading, Writing, Mathematics, and Science. There is an erroneous perception that the SAT I is “more valid” than the ACT as both are widely used and accepted. We recommend that any prospective student take a practice test in both before choosing which test to take.

SAT II Subject Tests

The SAT IIs are hour-long tests that assess specific subject knowledge such as Mathematics level I, Mathematics level II, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, French, Spanish, German, Latin, US History and English Literature. The material on these tests is different to the standard UK syllabus and therefore warrants some extra preparation. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

SAT | Talal Al-Nawab

"Talal worked with me on my SAT test preparation as well as helping me prepare for the SAT Math II Subject Test. At the beginning of the test preparation process, I was worried that I wouldn't be able to master everything I needed to know for the SAT Math sections, which were my main areas for improvement. Talal taught me that there was no point running through thousands of practice problems right away: instead, taking the time to learn the curriculum material thoroughly at first and carefully going over your mistakes is a more effective approach. Talal was always very friendly and patient, helping me through moments of frustration. I could tell that he really cared about my results. I appreciated how he managed to strike a balance between using our time efficiently while also making our sessions enjoyable." ... See Talal Al-Nawab's tutoring profile.

I have experience teaching a range of ages, both privately part-time and in full time employment as a teacher at Hurstpierpoint College, where I worked for a year before starting my degree at Oxford University. I have a particular interest in entrance into the UK's top schools and Universities, teaching 11 plus, Common Entrance, and preparing students for Oxbridge. I am aided by a detailed understanding of UK independent schools as well as experience preparing for the American education system at ISEE and SSAT level in particular. I have delivered private tuition to children between 5 and 20 years. I find tutoring immensely rewarding and particularly enjoy the focused nature of assisting an individual with their academic goals. ...
I'm originally from New York, and have been living in London for a bit over a year now. After graduating from Harvard University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Creative Writing (Cum Laude), I received my Master's degree from the London Film School. I've been privately tutoring for years, as a peer tutor on Harvard's campus with the Bureau of Study Council, as well as with private agencies. I also have extensive experience as an Admissions Representative in the Harvard Admissions Office. I specialise in the American curriculum and US College Counselling, but know and work with the English curriculum as well. ...
Having worked in the education space for over four years as a Senior Academic Mentor and University Admissions Counsellor, I have built up my experience of working with a wide range of students. My primary focus has been on SAT & ACT tutoring, US & UK University Admissions Counselling, and general high school Mathematics tutoring. I take a 'mentorship' approach to my work with students and focus on building a strong relationship based on trust and respect to ensure that students feel well-supported and are able to improve their abilities and performance levels. ...

I’m a postgraduate medical student at King’s College London and Bristol University graduate with a passion for a wide range of subjects. Studying humanities to A level, focusing on crop genetics during my undergraduate degree and now working to become a doctor translates well into tutoring a varied curriculum and ensures I’ve had plenty of experience in the process of learning. I'm an enthusiastic tutor; effective tutoring raises children’s confidence and gives them skills which they can take far beyond our sessions, which is my favourite aspect of the job. ...
I am a friendly, encouraging teacher with over a decade's experience, particularly with students aged 11-13. Since graduating from Cambridge 13 years ago I have taught students of all sorts of abilities and ages (5-58) anywhere from Notting Hill to Nairobi. My curiosity about the world has drawn me to journalism as well as teaching. I worked at the Telegraph for two years and now I write about arts and culture for The Economist’s 1843, The Spectator and Apollo magazines. I am also the co-author of 'What on Earth is Going On? A Crash Course in Current Affairs' (HarperCollins, 2009 - Sunday Times 'Stocking Filler of the Year'). Both my teaching and writing are informed by a desire to understand the world, and to help others do so too. ...
I graduated from the University of Oxford in 2019 with a BA in Human Sciences. Based in Central London, I now split my time between teaching and music.

I have significant experience as a tutor (40+ hours since the start of the academic year) and have recently taken on a classroom teaching job at The Academy School, Hampstead, where I teach KS3 Science.

Studying a uniquely broad degree and benefitting from outstanding teaching at Oxford, I have developed a strong understanding of the biological sciences (from Ecology to Animal Behaviour to Genetics), leading me to focus on tutoring Biology to A-Level (or below). I was a College Scholar at Oxford and have maintained a strong academic record throughout my education, achieving 2A* (Chemistry and Biology) and 1A (Maths) at A-Level while at Mount Kelly School.

My tutoring style is responsive and comprehensive, going far beyond the time I spend with a tutee. I believe that the most productive tutoring involves solutions and resources tailed to individual learning challenges - this preparation process is an essential part of my teaching style. ...

I am a home-schooling specialist and trained teacher, with a Cambridge first-class degree and experience working at a top UK boarding school. Having taught classes of students of wide-ranging abilities, I am aware of the importance of catering for the specific needs of individuals; this is what primarily draws me to tutoring. There is nothing more satisfying than having the time to sit and work through the challenges that a particular student is facing, one-to-one. As a teacher, I know the value that this can add to both their achievement and also their enjoyment of schoolwork. So often seemingly overwhelming problems are born of a simple misunderstanding which can be quickly ironed out within individual tutor time, and I thoroughly enjoy getting to know the individual learning styles and interests of my students. ...
I graduated from Cambridge University in 2015, where I studied Arabic and Spanish. Following graduation, I worked in a top boarding school in midtown Manhattan, New York supporting the students' preparation for SSAT/ISEE exams. Currently I am doing a social innovation graduate scheme, Year Here, I have introduced engaging new methods to support English language acquisition for participants of English Speakers for Other Languages (ESOL) courses at the Bromley by Bow community centre. Education has always been very important to me. My experiences above, in conjunction with teaching English to refugees in Jordan and supporting students in the US prepare for Spanish tests, leads me to having a broad understanding of education and the techniques that work for people of all levels. ...
