Caroline Jeffery - Private Tutor in North London

Caroline Jeffery Private Tutor in North London

I have a first class degree in French and Latin from University College London, with Dean's List honours. This involved a year teaching English as a foreign language in two schools in Nantes, France. Before university I attended Brighton College with a top academic scholarship, where I achieved A levels in French, Latin, English and History. I enjoy teaching languages at all levels from beginner to degree level. I particularly enjoy literary analysis and theory. As a tutor I tailor lessons to the particular goals and needs of the student, and often learn a great deal from my students about their particular passions. When not tutoring I am a detective in the Met Police.

My Tutoring & Teaching Experience

I taught English as a foreign language for a year in France. This involved teaching in a vocational college and teaching visually impaired students in a secondary school. I am able to adapt my teaching techniques to suit the needs of any individual student and their needs. I enjoy tailoring lessons for the specific requirements of the student. I was offered a job as a classics teacher at a London public school before following my current career.

My Approach to Tutoring

I take a structural approach to language learning, giving students the building blocks to be able to create their own sentences, rather than learning by rote. I take time to get to know my students, their motivations and passions, so that I can use these to engage them in the process of language learning. I have experience in finding effective solutions to suit each student, with a particular soft spot for a class clown, who I often find to be particularly bright!

I have a questionable passion for essay writing and structure. I have experience in both the French and English academic writing style.

Fun Facts About Me

In my spare time I can be found jumping into the ponds on Hampstead Heath, whatever the season. I was 1st team netball captain at university and county long jump champion at school. For my day job I am a detective in the Metropolitan Police Service, so there's not much I can't handle.
