11+ English | Elisa Mitrofan

" “Elisa didn't work with our son Oscar for a long period, however, she achieved great results in a short space of time. She quickly picked up where the previous tutor had laid off. She built a great rapport with him during the very first session and understood immediately why we were tutoring. Our goals were to increase confidence and encourage Oscar to challenge himself, rather than coasting through. He attends an excellent state primary, however, we just felt that some one to one attention would be a huge benefit. Elisa used Oscar's love of reading to inspire him and helped him to organise his thoughts when transferring them on to paper. She was careful not to overwhelm, but definitely hit these targets. We were always left with a sensible amount of homework and this clearly complimented the lesson that had just taken place. Elisa also suggested books that he might like to read and made the vocab tasks a lot of fun. Oscar always looked forward to his tutoring sessions, a true indication of Elisa's skills and enthusiasm! I would thoroughly recommend Elisa and can't thank her enough!” " ... See Elisa Mitrofan's tutoring profile.

I specialise in US exam preparation, reading comprehension, Art History, English (writing and literature), History, and French language. I have benefitted from one-on-one tutoring throughout my education in order to prepare for standardized tests (ISEE/SSAT, SAT/ACT, GRE), which helped me build confidence and was a huge factor in my success. Having grown up in Manhattan and having attended boarding school and university in the US, I am intimately acquainted with the American educational system and the testing and admissions processes for US high schools and universities. Because of my background, I am well equipped to provide admission advice and counselling.

In New York, I attended a private, all-girls school, Convent of the Sacred Heart, before continuing my education at Choate Rosemary Hall in Wallingford, Connecticut. At Choate, I took many Advanced Placement and honors courses. I achieved a 35 (of 36) on my ACT and 5's on my Art History, French, English Literature, and European History AP exams. I attended Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee where I double-majored in Art History and French. Before beginning my graduate studies in September 2019, in order to improve my German, I attended the Middlebury College Intensive Summer Language Program in Middlebury, Vermont, an 8 week, immersive program where all classes and socialising are conducted in German. I moved to London in 2019 to attend the master's programme in the History of Art at the Courtauld Institute (M.A. distinction, 2020; course: German Modernism: Politics, Utopia, and Times of Turmoil).

I am an outgoing tutor with an enthusiasm to help students engage with and enjoy their education. I value learning as a way of coming to understand the world and what is going on around you!

My A-Levels helped me to shape a way of thinking that then led to my degree in Anthropology at UCL, for which I received a 1st. This was one of the most exciting and stimulating decisions I made, and I thoroughly enjoyed each moment of my course.

I am confident in teaching a broad base of humanities and languages, and hope to have the chance to inspire some students in doing so! ...
Enthusiastic and experienced Oxford Economics and Management graduate, with 10 years of teaching experience and varying techniques I tailor my approach to each and every student. ...
I grew up in London, and was in school at Godolphin and Latymer before deciding to head to the US to attend Phillips Academy, Andover for high school. I then went on to study History of Art at Harvard University where I graduated magna cum laude with high honors. After two years working at an art gallery in New York, I returned to London where I received my Master's degree at the Courtauld Institute of Art. I have since returned to New York where I am working toward my PhD at CUNY Graduate Center.

Throughout my education I have benefitted form tutoring to help me achieve my academic goals and I understand how effective one-on-one teaching can be in preparing for big tests, catching up in a specific subject, and also building confidence. I am particularly experienced in helping students prepare for US independent and boarding school entrance examinations (ISEE, SSAT) and in working with students who need help with their personal essays or general applications for boarding school or university. As an alumni admission representative at Phillips Academy, I have worked with many students who are working on preparing applications to boarding schools and enjoy helping them to identify their strengths and use those to build a strong application. ...
I have taught at 3 major UK boarding schools: Eton College (current); Harrow School and St Edward's School, Oxford. I have also taught in the state sector, and therefore have experience working with students of all abilities. I have over 10 years of experience as a private tutor.

I have a degree in PPE for the University of Oxford, and a PGCE in Mathematics. I have 7 A Levels (all A grade) including Mathematics and Further Mathematics, which enables me to teach a broad range of subjects and give a balanced perspective.

My tutoring philosophy: It is essential for the student to spend as much time as possible thinking and answering questions during tutorials. A good tutor will ask the right questions at the right time to allow the student to make connections. I provide them with the necessary structure and careful prompts to guide them towards better understanding.

I am passionate about giving young people opportunities to improve. I love seeing students experience "lightbulb moments". I have taught all of my adult life in some of the best schools in the world.

I am a very keen sportsman. I have represented Wales at hockey and earned multiple Oxford Blues whilst at university. I also enjoy playing the piano to relax. ...

I find tutoring immensely rewarding and particularly enjoy the focused nature of assisting an individual with their academic goals. ...
I graduated from Oriel College, Oxford in July 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language and Literature. Throughout my school career I have balanced academic life with competitive tennis as a government funded, semi-professional player. This required huge drive and efficiency, for which I was rewarded with a stellar set of results at both GCSE and A-Level and a place at Oxford. Before starting my degree, I began tutoring part-time and have since helped children of a range of ages and abilities achieve similar academic excellence. I specialise in entrance to the UK's top schools, and have tutored students towards 7+, 8+, 11+ and Common Entrance to Westminster, St. Paul's and King's College to name a few. I am also interested in preparing students for Oxbridge entrance, and look to develop a student's passion for subjects beyond the syllabus not only immediately preceding their application, but in the years prior. I wish to help as many students as possible reach their desired academic goals and hugely enjoy transferring my own knowledge to my young protégées. ...
I recently graduated from Oxford University with a first class degree in English Language and Literature. Before that I attended Eton College on a full bursary, where I was awarded an Oppidan Scholarship for outstanding academic achievement. I left Eton with three A*'s and an A at A Level.
